Tree Pruning & Shaping
Crown reduction, thinning, lifting and deadwooding to improve tree health, light, airflow and appearance.
Neat, healthy hedges all year round
Regular trimming, shaping and height reductions to keep hedges neat, healthy and under control all year.
A well-kept hedge gives you privacy, shelter from the wind and a home for wildlife. Left alone for a few seasons, though, most hedges get too tall to manage from a stepladder, spread over paths and driveways, and go bare at the base. Limerick Tree Care cuts and maintains hedges of all sizes, from garden boundaries to long runs on commercial and council sites.
We offer one-off cuts, regular maintenance visits and heavier work such as height and width reductions on hedges that have got away from you. Every job includes clearing and removing the cuttings, which can easily fill several trailers on a big hedge.
Problems we solve
Hedges that have grown beyond safe reach of a ladder need the right equipment to cut properly. We reduce them to a manageable height.
Tall hedges can shade gardens, windows and neighbouring properties. A controlled height reduction can bring back the light.
Overgrown hedges can block footpaths, sightlines at driveway entrances and public roads.
Good shaping, with the hedge slightly narrower at the top than the base, lets light reach the lower branches and helps keep it dense.
Leylandii grows fast, but it won't regrow from old brown wood. Regular trimming is essential, and badly overgrown conifer hedges may need reducing or replacing.
How it works
Tell us the length, height and type of hedge, or we can call out to measure it, and how you'd like it to look afterwards.
We check the hedge for active nests before any cutting starts, and adjust the timing if needed.
Faces and tops are cut straight and level. Height reductions are done with the right access equipment, never from an over-stretched ladder.
Cuttings are collected from beds, lawns and paths and taken away for green waste recycling.
Hedges often run along public roads, footpaths and boundaries with neighbours. We set up appropriate signage or barriers on roadside work, keep people clear of the cutting area and take care around fences, walls and plants on both sides.
Powered hedge cutters and working at height are a common cause of garden injuries. If a hedge is beyond what you can comfortably reach from the ground, it's a job worth handing over.

FAQs
Yes. Many customers book us once or twice a year so their hedges never get out of hand. Tell us how often you'd like visits when you ask for a quote.
Yes. Height reductions are one of our most common hedge jobs. The main exception is old leylandii cut back into bare brown wood, which won't regrow, so we'll explain the options before we start.
The 1 March to 31 August restriction under the Wildlife Acts applies to hedges on uncultivated land, not to garden hedges. However, it's an offence to destroy an active bird's nest at any time, so we always check first.
Yes. All cuttings are cleared up and removed for recycling as part of the price.
