Tree Removal in Limerick

Controlled removal of dangerous, dead, storm-damaged or unwanted trees, including sectional dismantling in tight gardens.

Professional tree removal you can trust

Taking down a tree is rarely as simple as cutting through the trunk. Most trees we're asked to remove in Limerick stand close to houses, sheds, boundary walls, overhead cables or a neighbour's garden, where there is no room to fell them in one piece. Limerick Tree Care removes trees in a controlled way, often in sections from the top down, so that every piece of timber lands exactly where we plan it to.

We remove trees of all sizes for homeowners, landlords, businesses and local authorities across Limerick city and county, and in parts of Cork, Clare and Tipperary. Every job finishes with the site raked and cleared and the green waste taken away for recycling. If you also want the stump gone, we can grind it out on the same visit.

Problems we solve

Common reasons customers call us for tree removal

  • A tree that has become dangerous

Large dead limbs, deep cracks in the trunk, fungal brackets at the base or a lean that is getting worse can all mean a tree is at risk of failing.

  • Storm and wind damage

Atlantic storms regularly bring down trees and tear out limbs across Munster. We make split, hung-up and uprooted trees safe and clear them away.

  • Ash dieback

Ash dieback is now widespread in Ireland. Badly affected ash trees become brittle and can drop branches without warning, especially near roads and paths.

  • Trees too big for the space

Trees planted too close to a house can block light, lift paving, crowd drains and gutters, or simply outgrow the garden.

  • Building and site clearance

Extensions, driveways and new developments often need one or more trees removed before work can start.

  • Unwanted conifers and leylandii

Overgrown leylandii and other conifers that can no longer be cut back to green growth are often best removed and replaced.

How it works

Our tree removal process

  1. Step 1: Free site visit

We look at the tree, what's around it, access for equipment and where the timber can safely go, then give you a clear written quote.

  2. Step 2: Plan and permissions

We plan the method (straight fell or sectional dismantling), check for nesting birds and flag any licence or planning restrictions you may need to clear first.

  3. Step 3: Controlled removal

The work area is cordoned off. Where space is tight, a climber takes the tree down in manageable sections, lowering heavier pieces on ropes.

  4. Step 4: Clean-up

Brash is chipped, timber is cut or removed as agreed, and the area is raked and left tidy. Green waste goes for recycling.

Safety on every removal

Tree removal is high-risk work. Our team is fully insured and works with chainsaw protective clothing, helmets, eye and ear protection, and climbing and rigging equipment suited to the job. Work zones are cordoned off and we never let anyone stand beneath a tree while it is being cut.

If a tree is near overhead electricity lines, do not try to cut it yourself and do not let anyone climb it. Contact ESB Networks first. They may need to make the line safe before any tree work can go ahead.

Do you need permission to cut down a tree in Ireland?

Under the Forestry Act 2014, felling a tree generally needs a felling licence from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, but there are exemptions. Common ones include trees within 30 metres of a building (other than a wall or temporary structure) and trees in urban areas, which covers many garden trees.

Separately, some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order or sit in an Architectural Conservation Area, and planning conditions can protect trees on newer developments. If anything about your tree suggests it could be protected, we'll tell you at the quote stage so you can check with your county council before any work is done.

FAQs

Tree Removal questions

How much does tree removal cost in Limerick?

It depends on the size and condition of the tree, how close it is to buildings or cables, access for equipment, and whether you want the timber and stump removed. Because no two trees are the same, we give a free, no-obligation quote after seeing the tree.

Can you remove a tree that is very close to my house?

Yes. That's exactly what sectional dismantling is for. A climber removes the tree piece by piece from the top down, lowering sections on ropes so nothing falls on your roof, walls or garden.

Do you take away all the wood and branches?

Yes. Branches are chipped and all green waste is taken away for recycling. If you'd like to keep some of the timber, for firewood for example, just tell us when we quote and we'll cut it to manageable lengths.

Will you remove the stump as well?

We can. Removal normally leaves a short stump, which we can then grind out below ground level so you can replant, re-turf or pave over the area. See our stump grinding service for details.

Do you deal with fallen or storm-damaged trees?

Yes. We offer emergency call-outs for trees that have fallen or become dangerous after a storm. Call us on the number at the top of this page and tell us if the tree is blocking a road or touching a building or cable.
